CHIVA Party for Kellee

A Chiva is an old American school bus that is converted into a moving party with a bartender and a DJ. Kel always wanted a Chiva Party and I finally delivered with help from some of Kel's friends. This is authentic Panamanian culture.

Jen's birthday

Our exciting blog has been dormant for some time as we are leaving Panama soon and haven't been doing anything new and exciting. Well, last night we celebrated Jen's 28th (or so) and tried out the chef's table at a new restaurant. A good time was had by all - here is proof....

Mmmm, octopus.

Mmmm, can't beat fresh cooked pulpo. Freeze it, cook it for an hour, mix with smoked Spanish paprika and potatoes. Plus pulpo is cool looking during the prep phase - not cool while swimming in the Pacific.

Oscar Night

There was a party on Oscar night at the Ambassador's place. Another chance to talk about intellectual property rights (Jim) and to dress up and comment on the clothing of celebrities (Kellee).

Lucha Libre - All-Star Wrestling (?!) Panama Style

We went to Lucha Libre in a middle school size gymnasium on Friday night. After waiting two hours (!!) for the first match, we saw two guys who looked like they were doing this for the first time; they were worse than amateurs. The next two fights increased in quality and I am sure the fights after that were better; but we had enough and went out to eat with our friends at 10:30.

I hope we have now checked off almost every item on Kellee Farmer's Panama To Do List. We are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

hipodromo

We finally visited the Hipodromo, the place to watch horse races in Panama. It was a nice place to drink beer on a Saturday afternoon, plus we almost broke even on our bets.

Jim B - expert pulpo cook

On our last beach weekend, Jim B tried something new on the grill - pulpo (octopus). Pulpo is really popular in Panama and excellent if bought fresh and cooked properly. We bought the pulpo at the seafood market in Panama City and took it out to our favorite beach spot, Las Sirenas. This was his first go, but the Jim's pulpo was really good. We expect to see it again in the grilling rotation.
